Medal of Honor Warfighter: Step Aside Battlefield 3
Medal of Honor: Warfighter
It’s kind of crazy to think that in 2012 a Medal of Honor game could perhaps be one of the best Xbox 360 shooters to date. A series that many feel had lost its way over the years, certainly came back with a bang when it was rebooted just a little while ago. Medal of Honor was once the big dog in terms of shooters. That title now belongs to the Call of Duty franchise with Battlefield close behind. So far all the previews have shown that EA certainly want this franchise to be back on top again. They are showing no signs of being intimidated by Call of Duty either as they are releasing this just weeks before Black Ops 2 hits the stores.
Medal of Honor: Warfighter will see gamers playing the role of Stump. Stump is a former marine who is now a Seal. It is not a stand alone story and will be set right after the events of the Medal of Honor reboot. You will still be controlling Tier 1 operators and taking them through various missions. Some of these missions sound like they are going to be awesome to play through. One in particular that has been revealed will see you head to a pirate town on the coast of Somalia where you need to take down all the bad guys. This has a very cinematic look to it, and seems like it is going to be a blast to play. All of the missions are tied together by a story line that so far not a great deal has been revealed about.
While Medal of Honor: Warfighter may not quite have the single player story depth like its rival Black Ops 2; one area that looks to give Black Ops 2 a run for its money is multi player. The multi player aspect of Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be powered by the Frostbite 2 engine. This has gotten gamers very excited as it was the Frostbite 2 engine that powers Battlefield 3’s multi player. So far in terms of multi player all things are certainly looking like this could really be one of the most fun games this year.
EA is doing a really cool thing with this game in that if you pre order you automatically get the limited edition without any extra cost. In this day and age this is very rare especially from a publisher like EA and it’s indicative of how hard they are going to push and promote this game. If you get the special edition you will automatically unlock a couple of extra multi player characters that would normally take you the better part of 50 hours to unlock. In addition to this, EA will be releasing a Military version. This version is only available to people who have served in the militarily. How about that for Honoring our Troops! Huah!
There is no doubt that the reboot of Medal of Honor was a great return to form for the long running series. It still, however, has a tough road ahead of it to upset Call of Duty and Battlefield as the king of shooters, but the developers and publisher behind it look to go all out to try. No quarter will be given, no prisoners taken. We expect this might be the dark horse of shooters in 2012.
